Finance for breeders
Australia's thoroughbred breeding industry alone is worth $1.68 billion, the world's second-largest. If you're purchasing breeding stock as part of an operation, this is a different conversation to a personal horse loan, and it should be structured that way.
Business-purpose, where that's genuinely what it is
Under the National Credit Code, credit for a genuine business purpose (a breeding operation, not a personal hobby horse) can potentially be structured outside standard consumer-credit regulation via a business-purpose declaration. This isn't a way to route a personal purchase around consumer protections. It applies only where breeding is a genuine, income-producing activity, and we'll ask real questions to establish which category actually applies to your purchase.
Where a business-purpose structure does apply, we frame the conversation around cashflow and working capital rather than a fixed personal-loan repayment, matched where possible to your breeding and sale season cycle rather than a flat monthly figure.
Larger purchases, different scrutiny
Broodmare and stallion purchases sit at a higher price point than most personal horse loans, and lenders will look more closely at your operation's trading history, not just your personal income. Coming to an eligibility check with your business's financial position ready to discuss will get you a faster, more accurate answer.
Illustrative only. Business-purpose lending is priced and structured differently to a personal loan. This example assumes a standard amortising structure and is not representative of a working-capital facility.
Is breeding stock finance the same as a personal horse loan?
Not necessarily. Where the purchase is genuinely for a breeding business, it can potentially be structured as business-purpose credit, which is regulated and priced differently. We assess this honestly rather than defaulting to one structure.
Can I use a business-purpose declaration for a personal horse?
No. A business-purpose declaration isn't conclusive if the credit is actually, wholly or predominantly for personal use, and misusing it is a documented area of past abuse we won't participate in. If your purchase is personal, it's assessed as personal consumer credit.
What documentation will I need?
Typically your business's trading history and financial position, on top of the standard identity and income checks. We'll tell you exactly what's needed once we understand your operation.
